Celebrate Global Music Diversity: Explore Independent UK Festivals This Summer

FĂȘte de la Musique better known as World Music Day or Make Music Day in the UK, is a worldwide celebration of all music beyond the confides of genres and concert practices. Dust off your winter and spring blues and dance the night away with a slew of melodic lullabies.

The sole mission of the day, as stated by founder Maurice Fleuret in 1982, was for “Music will be everywhere and concerts nowhere”.

Celebrated in over 460 cities on the day on the summer solstice, 21 June, people are encouraged to play and experience the beauty and diversity that music has to offer, encouraging accessibility and promoting a collective sense of unity.

The homogenisation of musical experiences through social media and bloated concert prices has made exploring new music difficult.

So, in celebration of the ethos of Make Music Day this summer, here are some smaller independent UK festivals that will harness that adventurous spirit and encourage a total immersion into the greater unknown:

  1. Trance in the woods – Derby – 6 to 7th June 2025

An unmissable visit for festival enthusiasts, experience a hypnotising journey in the Derbyshire woodlands that infuses trance like beats with the bewildering magic of nature. Become one with the vibrations and lose yourself in the art of dance.

  1. The Eden festival - Scotland – 12th to 15th June 2025

Frolic through the hidden oasis of Scottish wilderness into the heart of a clean green festival machine. Sway with the bohemian melodies of new, with genres ranging from Jazz, Soul, and Rockabilly.

  1. Purbeck Valley Folk Festival – Wareham – 14th to 17th August 2025

Situated on the beautiful Jurassic Coast, experience a deeply passionate folk tale that leaves its harmonious mark. With a strong emphasis on originality and musical celebration this festival encompasses the inquisitive spirit of FĂȘte de la Musique.
