Charli XCX has won five Brit awards at this year’s ceremony: British album of the year, song of the year, British artist of the year, best dance act & songwriter of the year.
After a disappointing night at the Grammys where this decade’s greatest pop artist was sorely underrated, losing out on best album too Beyonce (who has far too many Grammys as it is), Charli XCX has got the recognition she deserves at the Brits.
Â
Brat was the best album of 2024, not just in the UK, but worldwide (Blimey’s official position). I’m not usually one for awards shows, but it’s refreshing to see the Brits get this one right.
Â
An extremely popular year followed the release of her masterpiece, which was critically acclaimed with huge commercial success. It did feel as if Charli was focusing mainly on the States, with her sold out arena tour with Troye Sivan and an upcoming one next month, but Charli is clearly equally as beloved on home turf.
Â
This recent sweep in UK music’s biggest ceremony shows that she’s dominant at home and across the Atlantic, despite being robbed at the Grammys.
